NP Rank:
Ko P. DeLA-Ron Lakers '10 vs. Ko P. DeLA-Riza Lakers '09
This years Ko P. DeLA-Ron Lakers 2009-10 will be judged by one thing and one thing only can they repeat as NBA Champs. Last years team won the title and Trevor Ariza was a major member of that team. He left the Lakers for the Houston Rockets while Ron Artest of the Rockets left H-Town for LA-LA land. There will be comparisons and a great debate will be talked about all season long til June to see if this team (Ko P. DeLA-Ron Lakers '10) can be rated higher than last years (Ko P. DeLA-Riza Lakers '09) squad. For that to happen they have to win it all plain and simple.
Ron Artest is a better overall player than Ariza, Artest a former Defensive Player of the Year and All-Star should make this years version of the Lakers better. Ariza stepped-up last season and made some big plays and big shots. He also along with Bryant was one of the teams best defenders. Artest brings a physical pressence that LA will need if they face Boston, Cleveland, or Orlando. He will able to guard Paul Pierce, LeBron James, or Vince Carter at times to take some pressure off of Kobe and help keep him out of foul trouble.
The other 5 core players Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Derek Fisher, Lamar Odom, and Andrew Bynum are under pressure but the most pressure is on Ron Artest the newest member of the team, and the man that replaced a member of a Championship sqaud. Artest before the season stated that the heavy expectation of a back-to-back title are on his shoulders. The media, fans, and history are following the Lakers this year to see if they deliver another title and help create another dynasty for the purple and gold.
Kobe Bryant is also under the pressure of trying to live up to the Michael Jordan comparison and matching or surpassing his 6 NBA Championships. Kobe currently has 4 and he wants to become the first star of his generation to win 5 titles passing former teammate Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan.
The signature nickname Ko P. DeLA-Ron that was created by National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month Foundation (NBHHCM) www.NBHHCM.org is the combination of all 6 core players Kobe, Pau, Derek, Lamar, Andrew, and Ron.
The Ko P. DeLA-Riza nickname for last years team has a nice flow as it uses Trevor's last name instead of Ron Artest's first.
The Lakers own the best record in the NBA. They have struggled at times and have faced a few nagging injuries to Kobe, Pau, and Artest. If they can get healty by April and have momentum going into the playoffs and eventually win the NBA Finals there will truly be a debate to decide, "Who's Better"?
