Ko P. DeLA-Ron Lakers 2010-11, Start 3-Peat Championship Run
The Los Angeles Lakers were given their 2009-10 championship rings and unveiled their new championship banner in front of a sell-out crowd at Staplers Center last night. The Lakers are also on a quest to win a 3rd straight NBA title matching the 2000-02 Lakers that were led by Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.
The Lakers then went out and defeated a game Houston Rockets team 112-110 to start the season out with a win. The Lakers were led by Pau Gasol who poured in 29 points and 11 rebounds. Kobe shot 8-20 from the field for 27 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. Bryant is not 100% after off-season knee surgery. He's not as explosive but still was able to get the basket and made key shots during the game.
This group of LA Lakers are led by a core of 6 players that are known as Ko P. DeLA-Ron. The nickname combines all 6 players Kobe Bryant (Ko), Pau Gasol (P.), Derek Fisher (De), Lamar Odom (L), Andrew Bynum (A), and Ron Artest (Ron).
The Ko P. DeLA-Ron Lakers combined for 80 of the teams 112 points (Kobe-27, Pau-29, Lamar-14, Ron-8, and Derek-2). Shannon Brown and new Laker Steve Blake contributed 16 and 10 points each of the bench to help spark a run early in the 4th quarter that gave the Lakers the lead.
The Rockets were led by the explosive back-court of Aaron Brooks and Kevin Martin. Brooks scored 24 points and dished out 9 assists. Martin had a team-high 26 points for Houston. Yao Ming played in his first NBA game since the 2009 NBA playoffs played a little under 24 minutes. Yao was solid with 9 points and 11 rebounds.
The Ko P.DeLA-Ron nickname was created by the NBHHCM (National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month) Foundation and Dunkadelic Sports Marketing. "If the Ko P. DeLA-Ron Lakers can win a 3rd straight NBA Championship they will have marketing and branding opportunities because it will be valuable for fans to have the signatures all 6 players on merchandise that has Ko P. DeLA-Ron name on it", say Derrick E. Vaughan of Dunkadelic Sports Marketing.
The only other team that has completed a 3Peat is the Chicago Bulls (twice 1991-93, 1996-98) led by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Those teams were known by as Jordan and his supporting cast. There were rumors that Jordan's team-mates often felt overlooked for their contributions to the team. Jordan also had public disagreements with management.
This Lakers core has a great connection and chemistry that will allow them to benefit from the Ko P. DeLA-Ron nickname even after retirement.
Kobe is the Ko of Ko P. DeLA-Ron he will also deliver the KO punch to other teams that stand in the way of the Lakers completing a 2nd 3Peat for 2010-11.
