Landon Donovan, star of the US Soccer Team and LA Galaxy, almost signed a contract with Club America, the same club where Salvador Cabanas played before his shooting.

He made these declarations while being interviewed by Notimex. Donovan said playing in the Mexican League with Club America would be great for his "talents" as well as "capacity."

Donovan used to play football with the  Latin community in Los Angeles since leaving  Europe where he played in the English Team Everton. Many credit Donovan for bringing US soccer into the limelight via publicity for the team as well as the MLS.

Mexico's Growing Reputation for Violence

The Mexican League's rep has fallen on hard times since Salvador Cabanas was shot in Bar Bar [a popular nightclub in Mexico City].Cabanas has recovered and is now  able to talk, move, and continue his treatment in Argentina., but the country's violence has turned many stars off the league.

In other parts of the country, including Ciudad Juarez where the assassination of 16 youths in February of 2010 violence has also been a deterrent. Mexico also saw the killing of staff of the US Consulate over the border from El Paso, Texas.

According to a recent report by the US Department of State, the crime rate has increased with kidnappings as well as assaults frequent in Mexico City, Nogales, Cancun, and other places.
