Lakers Dominate LeBron & Cavs in Dunkadelic Showdown 105-88
The Los Angeles Lakers hosted LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in a East vs. West battle of the 2 best teams in the NBA. This was also a showdown between the 2 premiere players in the league LeBron and Kobe. LeBron James is the early on favorite to win the NBA MVP Award, and Kobe Bryant is the reigning MVP.
Cleveland came into tonight's game with a 5-game win streak. This was their first of a 4-game road trip.
Kobe Bryant dislocated his ring finger on his right hand early in the first quarter. LeBron and his Cavaliers got out early and matched the Lakers energy but trailed 25-24 after the first when they turned the ball over 3 times in the last 2 minutes and allowed the Lakers to score 8 straight points to take the lead.
The Cavs played a strong second quarter and took 50-49 lead going into halftime. The Cavs forced the Lakers into 11 first half turnovers.
The Lakers came into the third quarter with more defensive intensity and limited the Cavs to only 16 points in the third. Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum dominated in the low-post where the game was won. Gasol finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Bynum had 14 points. He also had 5 strong fouls and proved to be a physical force down low. The Lakers had a +14 advantage in low post points.
LeBron was played by Kobe on the defensive end for much of the game and he limited King 23 to 23 points on 9-25 shooting. James had 9 rebounds and 4 assists but was forced into 6 turnovers. The Lakers took a 75-66 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Ben Wallace and Anderson Varejao proved to be no match to the length of Bynum and Gasol.
Kobe Bryant scored 20 points, and dished out 12 assists, to go along with 6 rebounds. Kobe's floor generalship helped in the Lakers shoot 52.5% from the field compared to 43% shot by the Cavs.
Sasha Vujacic came off the bench for the Lakers to score 14 points on 4-5 from the 3-point arc.
The Lakers took a commanding 18-point lead in the fourth but James and the Cavs made an 11-point run to shave the lead to seven 91-84. The Lakers came out of the time out and finished off Cleveland winning by seventeen 105-88.
Mo Williams contributed 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists for Cleveland. The Cavs 17 point defeat is their worst loss on the season. The Cavs record is now 31-8 with their next game Wednesday night in Portland. The Orlando Magic now have the best record in the eastern conference.
The Lakers ended a 2-game losing streak to improve their record to 32-8. Up next for the Lakers is a visit from accross the locker room with the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday night.
