Celebrations erupted throughout Los Angeles after the Los Angeles Lakers won the 2009 NBA championship.
Lakers fans gathered at the Staples Center, the Lakers home court, and celebrated as the team's win over the Orlando Magic in Game 5 of the 2009 NBA finals
Some fans climbed the statues of Magic Johnson and Oscar De La Hoya outside the Staples Center.
According to the LAPD, early celebrations were largely peaceful. At around 8:30 several fans tried to set a bonfire near Staples Center, which was quickly extinguished by police. There have also been reports of fans setting off fireworks.
Police expect to be out in full force after the Lakers Game 5 championship-clinching win.
