Now That Lance Armstrong Has Been Punished, Who Won All Those Tour de France Races From 1999 to 2005?

We now know one thing: Lance Armstrong never won Tour de France. The American cyclist was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles on August 23, 2012.
The question remains: if Lance Armstrong did not win the Tour de France from 1999 to 2005, then who did?

The answer, it seems, is we're not sure yet.

Logic would dictate that the racers who came finished second to Lance Armstrong would be crowned Tour de France champion.

If that's the case, then here is a list of every racer that finished second to Lance Armstrong at the Tour de France:

1999: Alex Zülle
2000: Jan Ullrich
2001: Jan Ullrich
2002: Joseba Beloki
2003: Jan Ullrich
2004: Andreas Klöden
2005: Ivan Basso

But hold on. Things aren't that easy. As Deadspin points out, every one of those cyclists have had to deal with doping controversies of their own. Most notably, Jan Ullrich was banned this year and stripped of all of his results after 2005. In theory, he could be named Tour de France champ since those results came before 2005.

Ullrich hasn't said much about the possible Tour de France wins.

The New York Times has a handy interactive chart that tracks all the top Tour de France who have been tainted by Doping (hint: there's a lot of them).

At least one writer has suggested that we should just void all Tour de France results from 1999 to 2005.

Isn't cycling fun?

Jumping the gun a bit here aren't you ? Where's the proof that LA won these Tours unfairly ? USADA does not "own" the TdF. They cannot take the victories away. That's up to someone else if ever LA is proven guilty.

Oh dear what a mess. They were all at it so they may as well let the results stand
