Lebron James New Number for 2010 - #6

Lebron James announced on TNT that next season, he will change his number from 23 to 6 in honor of Michael Jordan.

Excerpt of Lebron's interview:

Lebron:  No guy in the NBA should ever wear 23.  He can't get the NBA logo, much respect to Jerry West, so I think his number shouldn't be worn by any player in the NBA.  So I'm thinking about changing my number next year, just to show the trooper that, what he did for this game to pioneer everybody.  He laid down the stepping stones for everybody to come up through the ranks.  I'm going to change my number for next year, because that's how much respect I have for a guy like that.

Carl Sager:  What number you'll wear next year?

Lebron:  Probably 6, my Olympic number.

Carl Sager:  What uniform will you be wearing next year?

Lebron:  We'll see.  (Lebron breaks out into laughter).

I'm not sure if Lebron is aware that the number 6 was made famous by Bill Russell, the only player with eleven NBA championships rings.  It seems odd that Lebron would go out of his way to honor MJ by not wearing his number, and replace it with the number worn by another all-time NBA legend.
