The Lebron 2010 sweepstakes took an unexpected turn last month when the Nets announced its sale to Russia's richest man Mikhail Prokhorov.  The Nets suddenly became a very attractive destination for Lebron James because they will have the financial backings of an owner worth $9 billion.

It could be a match made in heaven between Lebron and the Nets.  In the summer of 2010, the Nets will be approximately $40 million dollars under the cap, allowing them to sign Lebron plus another super star player such as Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, or Joe Johnson just to name a few.  A core of Lebron, Wade, and Devin Harris would make the Nets championship contenders overnight.

The big wildcard in all of this is the potential impact that Prokhorov will have on the Nets.  Prokhorov carries a reputation as being the Russian Mark Cuban, a sort of owner willing to spend whatever it takes to make his team into a championship contender.  Having the money to acquire players is going to be extremely important to Lebron if he is indeed serious about winning championships.  Prokhorov's business connections to Russia and Europe would also be intriguing to Lebron, who desperately wants to increase his presence as a global icon.

Lets face it Prokhorov will take LeBron to the fanciest places to eat. He will take him to the best exotic islands and hotels. LeBron wants to get into an exclusive party with Prokhorov's help? Not a problem. LeBron wants to go shopping? Prokhorov will go with him and pay for everything. The point is, Prokhorov will do anything to have LeBron James wear a Brooklyn Nets jersey with the number 23 on Opening Night of 2010 under the lights of the new Atlantic Yards Arena.
