Live Results: Men's Olympic Water Polo

After five preliminary matches, Greece, Kazakhstan, Great Britain, and Romania will definitely not advance to the quarterfinals. The hosts haven't even played their last game yet, but they have no prelim points so far: even if they beat Montenegro (which is a big ask), GBR will still be in the bottom two of Group B.

The highly-anticipated USA-Hungary match was not quite as close as we expected. Hungary dominated the early part of the game, drawing fouls to keep the ball out of US hands. The Hungarians already scored four goals before the Americans could answer halfway through Q2. At one point, Hungary was up 11-4 before Layne Beaubien and Peter Hudnut managed to close the gap. Both Hungary and the USA will advance to the Quarterfinal Round. Croatia is the only team to have won all five prelim matches.

The Men's Water Polo Quarterfinals will be played on August 8: match times are yet to be determined as of this post, but here are the Quarterfinal fixtures:

  • Croatia - USA
  • Spain - Montenegro
  • Italy -Hungary
  • Australia - Serbia
