Amazing Photos from Olympic Men's Water Polo Quarterfinals

We've got the scores from the London 2012 Men's Water Polo Quarterfinals below, and we're updating them as the tournament progresses. Also, we're getting some amazing photos that capture the action (and violence) of the toughest team sport in the Olympics.

Men's Water Polo Quarterfinal Scores:

  • Montenegro 11-9 Spain
  • Serbia 11-8 Australia
  • Italy 11-9 Hungary
  • Croatia 8-2 USA

Despite a Q4 rally, Spain was not quite able to get past Montenegro in a really physical game. Montenegrin hole-set Boris Zlokovic . Montenegro will next play the winner of the USA-Croatia match in the Semifinals.

Australia was leading Serbia going into Q4, but the Serbs completely owned the last quarter, preventing the Aussies from finding the net at all. Serbia will next play the winners of the Hungary-Italy match.

Hungary is defending the Gold-Medal that they've owned since Sydney 2000, surging to close the gap on Italy. Should Italy win, it'll only bet the fifth time that Hungary has missed the podium since 1928. [Update: Italy will indeed advance to the Semifinals to face Serbia.]

Croatia kept Team USA from scoring for the first half of the game. The Americans sprang back with goals from Ryan Bailey and Peter Varellas, but will it be enough to spark a game-winning rally? In the end, it was not. Croatia will go on to face Montenegro in the Semifinals.

The Semifinals will be played on August 10. Spain and the USA will play for 5th-6th place. Hungary and Australia will play for 7th and 8th.

But enough talk... check out the latest Men's Water Polo photos.
