Los Angeles & Carson get a New Soccer Team
The Home Depot Center based in the City of Carson introduces a new team to the ever popular world of soccer.
The Los Angeles Sol will be part of the newly formed Women's Professional Soccer League (WPS). The league's inaugural game will be on March 29th, 2009 at the Home Depot Center between the LA Sol and Washington Freedom, the Sol plan on being one of the top contenders of the league.
Currently composed of twenty one players, the LA Sol brings talent, like that of Marta Vieira da Silva (Marta) a twenty three year old Brazilian native who joins the LA Sol with an amazing record, her last team was the Swedish based UmeƄ IK, where Marta scored 111 goals in 103 games. Marta also stars for the feminine national team of Brazil, where she currently has 47 goals in 45 games played.
Teammates will include Olympic veteran Shannon Boxx and U.S. national women's team member Aly Wagner, who has 21 goals recorded with the national team.
The Sol will be competing against six other teams, which include Northern California's FC Gold Pride, Chicago Red Stars, Boston Breakers, St. Louis Athletica, New Jersey's Sky Blue FC, and Maryland's Washington Freedom.
Expansions for the league will include a team from Atlanta, Dallas, and Philadelphia in 2010.
