Los Angeles Lakers Champions? No money to fund a victory parade

The Los Angeles Lakers are one win away from capturing their 15th NBA Championship, but city officials are already saying they can't afford a parade.

A parade would cost the city at least $1 million and during the tough economic times, and the city's deep budget deficit, they do not want to spend any of the tax payers money to throw a party. When they are contemplating worker layoffs and cuts in services, a parade just does not seem appropriate.
So before you start planning the Los Angeles Lakers parade route, the party might be on-hold.

"We can't afford to cover the costs," City Councilwoman Jan Perry told the Los Angeles Times. "How could we make a decision about people's jobs and then sponsor the parade?"
