Los Angeles Lakers Parade To Be Funded By Private Donations
The Los Angeles Lakers victory parade will take place Wednesday, and after a public outcry it will be paid for by private dollars.
The victory parade was in jeopardy after city officials wondered if it was a good idea to spend taxpayer dollars on a parade considering the city's current fiscal troubles.
The original plan was for the City and the Los Angeles Lakers organization to split the $2 million cost of the parade. Even footing half the bill for the parade was too much for many critics. The Los Angeles Police Protective League urged the Lakers to pick up the entire tab.
Instead, it looks like private donors have stepped up to pay for the parade.
The LA Times is reporting that Casey and Laura Wasserman, Jerry and Margie Perenchio and others will help pay for the city's half of the parade.
Casey Wasserman is the grandson of former Universal Pictures Chairman Lew Wasserman. Jerry Perenchio is the former chairman of Univision Communications.
So when is the Lakers parade? The parade is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16 at 11 am. The Lakers parade route will begin at Staples Center and travel along Figueroa Street to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

That should make everyone happy.
LA gets to enjoy the pride of the winning the championship and money and fame that the Lakers bring to the city.

There's only one legitimate place I've found to watch it, the rest seem like scams :-/ You can watch it over here though: http://tinyurl.com/per7xf

The fact that state employee lackies would need to contemplate if having a "parade" to support a bunch of multimillionaires who play with balls/nets is a good idea is frightening. This state is in massive fiscal failure. Excessive taxes/fees, Double dig. unemployment, millions losing homes, massive layoffs across all sectors, state employee lackies demanding pay raises, tenure, OT, pensions, etc......and they are thinking of throwing a "parade" of 2million?!?!?! How about a parade for unemployment, how a parade about greedy work-addicted baby boomers who have screwed this country, how about a parade for those 4 cops murdered in Oakland by slime and the sleazy lawyers/politicians that have all these rules of engagement, how about a parade for those billionaires begging for bail-outs (welfare) from your taxes as they show up in private corporate jets? The USA is a sinking ship, they terry nickel and dime you, and then they can throw a parade for a bunch of sexually repressed, single people who wear shirts, and basecaps backward proclaiming their love for strangers who could care less except for das dinero.
