Manchester United have touched down in japan and are preparing for their World Club Cup Semi-final against Gamba Osaka.

Sir Alex Fergusson is keen to win the match and go on to become World Club Champions despite pundits at home questioning the sense in travelling all the way to Japan and back at a time when the UK fixture list is so dense and the Premiereship title race so close.

Ferguson, despite having to postpone a Premier League match for the privilege of being here, said he would treat the tournament with respect, pointing to its significance elsewhere.

And it is not often teams from around the world get to play illustrious visitors from Europe and South America, other than on their money-spinning pre-season tours.

Unfortunately, midfielder Paul Scholes obviously did not get the same hymn sheet, voicing his belief before departure that the players would be better off at home, concentrating on domestic matters.

Hopefully United, and the rest of us, will have adapted to life in Yokohama before Thursday's opener.

I have a ticket for the game. People back home in the UK don't understand how big teams like Man U and others are in Asian countries like Japan. These games are worth millions of pounds for sold shirts etc. Man U is here for the business and the more money the more players they can buy, the English press should remember that!...zichi
