At Marinews exploring? Black Bass in PAPUA. Fishing and exploring the Tropical country of Papua New Guinea.
Sydney fishing enthusiast, Tim Mason, tries a fishing trip with a difference when he joins a group searching for the famed Papua black bass. Using Aussie made StessI Edge trackers they find success on the Kikori River system.
The attraction of fishing is in no small part the thrill which comes with that unmistakable tug on the line as the quarry takes a bait, or hits a lure. All the more so if it is a big fish which provides a good fight.
But there are other things. Just being on the water and seeing the bird life, scenery, and magnificent sunrises and sunsets all contribute. If you then add in the extra sizzle of travelling to an exotic and strange land, fishing then ceases to be a simple sport and becomes an adventure. For eight of us fishing enthusiasts this was the case as we flew to (P.N.G.) Papua New Guinea last year for some sportfishing in the little known Kikori River system.
The adventure started as soon as the charter plane took off from Cairns. After all, it was an unpres-surised aircraft and had only a ceiling of about 8,000 ft. Add rain and low cloud and it was a white knuckles trip all round.
