Mats Sundin Signs With the Vancouver Canucks (Finally)
After months of indecision, star NHL centre Mats Sundin has signed a contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, although it is believed that the deal will be similar to the $10-million US, one-year deal the team offered him this summer. Since he will be playing around half a season, Sundin's contract will probably be pro-rated to the range of $5.5 million. Sundin is expected to join the team on Dec. 27.
After fielding several offers from around the NHL, Sundin had whittled his options down to the Canucks and New York Rangers.
Sundin spent the last 13 seasons with the Maple Leafs and is their all-time leading scorer. The presence of Sundin should have an impact on the Canucks, a team that has struggled to score goals in the past few seasons.
While Vancouver fans may be excited at the prospect of having Sundin in a Canucks uniform, the deal is not without risk. The 37-year-old has had to deal with serious injuries in the past. Also, having missed nearly half a season, it may take a while for Sundin to get into game shape.

This was from a game in Toronto back in 2002 I think. Mats just seemed a little tired and possibly in deep thought about his team that night. It is my favourite photo from the many games I have had the opportunity to attend.
