The Rick Pitino extortion case continues, and lurid details keep bubbling to the surface. Karen Cunagin Sypher is on trial for extorting several million dollars from University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino, saying that he raped and impregnated her. Pitino insists the sexual encounter was consensual.

Matt Jones from Kentucky Sports Radio is in the courtroom: as photo and video broadcasting is banned, Jones is communicating the new-fashioned way: via Twitter. The short, telegraph-style dispatches containing TMI, as well as the alleged extortion letter, written on University of Louisville letterhead, only heighten the salaciousness of an already byzantine case.

But even Jones admits that “Twitter can’t do justice” to the absurdity of the trial, so he’s been writing detailed blog posts at night, wrapping up the circus-like events. For instance, testimony has revealed that Pitino gave Tim Sypher $10,000 of his Big East Championship bonus money to purchase a car for Karen Sypher’s son. And she was upset she didn’t get a purse at Christmas like the wives of the rest of the staff.

The Courier-Journal has a copy of the extortion letter in which Sypher allegedly lays out her demands.

Pitino also says that he gave Sypher $3,000 at the time bc she said she needed health insurance. He also says "it wasn't my child."
