A series of waves crashed into thousands of fans who gathered to watch the 2010 Mavericks Surf Contest at Half Moon Bay, CA. The Mavericks rogue wave injured up to 40 fans who gathered to watch what is often referred to as the Super Bowl of surfing.

The waves during the Mavericks Surf Contest were some of the biggest ever, so big that some surfers voted that the competition should be postponed.

While many surfers had spectacular wipe outs thanks to the big Mavericks waves, the most damage was done to some unfortunate fans. At high tide, a series of Mavericks rogue waves crashed ashore, sweeping people into the water.

Here is Mavericks Rogue Wave video from the 2010 Mavericks Surf Contest.
