Media supporting Grand National despite many horse deaths
British horse magazines such as the Horse & Hound, fashion houses and mainstream media outlets like the BBC are throwing themselves at supporting the Grand National despite numerous equine deaths. Yet, many individuals, animal lovers and equine experts on Twitter are calling it a 'National Disgrace' or 'Death Race'.
There is often a media frenzy when children die, but not so much when animals die because of cruelty by humans. Citizen journalists don't have to worry about its readership. We are not effected by money as we write and document for free.We don't have editors telling us what to write and think.
However, John Smith's, the Sponsors of this cruel and outdated race, have decided to pull out of sponsorship after 2013.
Will any other organisation even want to sponsor the Grand National? Clearly it is still unsafe, and unethical.
Some stables are boycotting the Grand National and refusing to subscribe to equine magazines or employing farriers that promote it. Protesters also went to Aintree and campaigned against it.
