SF Giants Melky Cabrera Gets 50-Game Suspension

On August 15, 2012, San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera was given a 50-game suspension after a doping test came back positive for elevated testosterone. This takes Cabrera out for the rest of the season.

Though he had denied the rumors before, Melky Cabrera unequivocally confirmed in a statement that he had been doping:  ”My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used. I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down.”
