Is Omar Minaya seriously interested in hiring J.P. Ricciardi and Kevin Towers into the NY Mets' organization? It sure would be a gutsy move on his part because both men could easily be his replacement come next June if the Mets are 10 games out of first place.

It doesn't make sense for Towers to join the Mets as an underling to Minaya, but I can see why it would be advantageos for Ricciardi.

Ricciardi had an up and down eight years in Toronto.  He was at his worst when he dished out $245 million to BJ Ryan, Vernon Wells, and Alex Rios, not exactly 3 future hall of famers.  For Ricciardi, any job in baseball would be a huge plus for him given some of his abject failures as a GM.

It is an intriguing and potentially nervy move by Minaya. Towers with San Diego and Ricciardi in Toronto were long-serving GMs before being dismissed. If one or both come to the Mets, they would be arriving at a time when Minaya is not in an overly secure spot despite being about to start a three-year contract extension.
