Michael Irvin To Star in Dallas Cowboys Reality Show
Former NFL wide receiver Michael Irvin is set to host a new reality show that will feature contestants competing for a training camp roster spot on the Dallas Cowboys.
The show will air on Spike TV and will feature twelve amateurs who will move to Dallas and compete against one another to earn a shot at a spot in Dallas Cowboys training camp next summer and potentially a spot on the team.
The yet-to-be-titled show is expected to debut this spring and will pit twelve contestants. Six wide receivers and six defensive backs will be divided into two teams that will be coached by former Cowboys players and coaches. The team's will be assessed by a series of guest judges that will include personalities such as Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, and even Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
"There are millions of kids in this country who dream about playing in the NFL and, to be honest with you, probably about 90% of those kids dream about playing with the Dallas Cowboys," says Irvin, who adds that while the recent drama surrounding his former team certainly won't hurt ratings, people will tune in regardless. "There's a lot of talk about the state of the Cowboys, but everybody's always tuned in with this team. I mean, lets be real, it's the Cowboys—whether they're winning or losing, people are interested. I played with them when they were 1–15 and people were still buzzing about them. That's what makes this show even more unique, because the winner gets an opportunity to go to camp with the most visible franchise in the world."
The show will be produced by 3 Ball Productions, which has developed reality shows such as behind The Biggest Loser and Age of Love. This wouldn't the Cowboys' first foray into reality TV. The team took in Hard Knocks, an HBO series that took a behind-the-scenes look at NFL training camps.
