We're just seeing reports that Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps will not face charges over photos of him with a marijuana pipe.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said he did not have sufficient evidence to prosecute anyone in the case.
The Sheriff announced the results of the investigation that started when a photo surfaced showing Phelps using a bong at a South Carolina house party.
Earlier in February Phelps was suspended for three months by USA Swimming, the sport's national governing body, after photos appeared of him apparently smoking marijuana at the party in November. He also lost a major marketing contract with cereal maker Kellogg's.
Phelps has apologized for the photo.

And, now, we should apologize to Phelps for putting him through this.

No, I don't think the public owes Michael Phelps an apology. Maybe he should be relieved that the South Carolina police have dropped the case. What is illegal is illegal.
