Michael Schumacher returning to Formula One racing
Michael Schumacher, 40, is coming out of retirement to race for Mercedes in 2010. Schumacher wants to get back into Formula One racing because he feels like his hunger is back.
"I have no doubt about my ability. My old hunger for racing is back," Schumacher said Wednesday.
"For me, the imagination to be back in a F1 car and to compete for the world championship is exciting and extremely inspiring. I think the duels on the race track will be electrifying," he said.
Schumacher is a seven-time Formula One champion. He won two titles with Benetton, before winning five in a row with Ferarri from 2000 to 2004. Schumacher has won 91 of 250 races, reaching the podium 154 times, and earned 68 starts from the pole position.
Schumacher retired from Formula One racing in 2006. He became a consultant for Ferrari and also dabbled in motorcycle racing until he got hurt in an accident earlier this year.
Schumacher's teammate with Mercedes in 2010 will be Nico Rosberg.
