Michael Vick aka 'Ron Mexico' Signs With the Philadelphia Eagles
Disgraced athlete Michael Vick (who in 2005 used the alias Ron Mexico to get treatment for an STD) has signed a two year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Vick's new deal with the Eagles was first reported by Fox Sports and was later confirmed by team president Joe Banner and Vick's agent Joel Segal.
Michael Vick has not played pro-football since 2006 when he was brought up on charges of running a competitive dogfighting ring, training pit bulls for fighting and conducting a criminal enterprise across state lines. He served 18-months in jail for the crimes.
Despite his horrific crimes Michael Vick has been welcomed back to the sport that made him famous. It remains to be seen whether dog loving Philadelphia Eagles fans will embrace him with the same regard. Michael Vick's two year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles will earn him $1.6 million this season with the possibility of earning another $5.2 million at the teams discretion in the following year.
Vick, the former Atlanta Falcons star, was conditionally reinstated by NFL Roger Goodell July 27. The left-handed Vick, the top pick in the 2001 draft, hasn't played in the league since 2006.
According to terms of the reinstatement, Vick can take part in team practices/meetings and play in the final two preseason games. The explosive playmaker can apply for full reinstatement by Week 6.
Vick could challenge Kevin Kolb for backup quarterback duties behind Donovan McNabb or be a weapon in special wildcat packages. The Eagles are playing the Patriots in their first preseason game Thursday. Head coach Andy Reid is expected to address the Vick signing after the game.

Who knows what will happen now? Philly TV newscasters were caught by surprise today by this announcement. The Eagles main quarterback is Donovan McNabb. Apparently, Kevin Kolb, the backup quarterback was injured earlier this week in training camp. Andy Reid, the coach, and Jeff Lurie, the owner, interviewed Michael Vick, and the deal was signed.
