Mike D'Antoni Is No Longer the Head Coach of the New York Knicks. Was a Mike D'Antoni-Carmelo Anthony Feud To Blame?

Mike D'Antoni has quit his job as head coach of the New York Knicks on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. D'Antoni spent several seasons with the Knicks, after a successful run in Phoenix.

Why Did D'Antoni Resign?

Mike D'Antoni's resignation comes as a bit of a surprise. Sure, the team has struggled of late, but seemed to be turning things around with point guard Jeremy Lin at the helm.

Some in the media are suggesting that D'Antoni's strained relationship with star forward Carmelo Anthony may have been a factor.

The Wall Street Journal has reported on the alleged Mike D'Antoni-Carmelo Anthony feud

D'Antoni realized over the course of the last few weeks that Anthony was never going to play his style of play, a person familiar with the matter said.

Deadspin has dubbed the feud "Carmelodrama" an homage to "Linsanity."

A similar situation when Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan retired after an alleged fight with point guard Deron Williams.
