NP Rank:
Mitsuharu Misawa, 46, Japanese Wrestler Died from a back suplex
Mitsuharu Misawa, a wrestler in Japan who is considered to be one of the greatest of all time died from a back suplex during a tag-team match in Hiroshima Green Arena, Japan.
Mitsuharu Misawa apparently died from a heart attack after being knocked unconscious from taking the suplex. The match stopped immediately as workers came to his help by performing CPR in the ring before being rushed to the hospital.
Misawa was wrestling in a tag team match at the Hiroshima Green Arena with his partner Go Shiozaki against Bison Smith and Akitoshi Saito for NOAH's Global Honored Crown Tag Team championships when the tragedy occurred. It was a routine suplex when Misawa failed to get back up. Wrestlers gathered around the ring while fans chanted his name.
Misawa was groomed for stardom from the day he was brought into All Japan by Shohei "Giant" Baba after being successful amateur High School wrestler. He became the second Tiger Mask (under the hood, he wrestled Bret Hart in 1990) before eventually competing under his real name.
