Moscow poised for influx of British Pound
Well most North Americans are at work on Wednesday afternoon, Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow will play host to the UEFA Champions League final. The Champions League is a compilation of the top teams from countries through out Europe.
Historical England, Efficient Germany, Elegant Italy, Sassy Portugal, Classy France and a host of other European nations send their top club teams to compete in this annual attempt at capturing bragging rights for the entire continent.
This year the bragging rights have been awarded in advance, their cheering in the streets, chests are boasted, spirts are high and Moscow is poised for an influx of British Pounds. All this excitement hours before kick off.
Manchester United (Manchester, England) will take the pitch against hated London opposition
Chelsea FC and hours prior to kick off two scores have already been settled.
1.England will retain European club bragging rights for at least one calendar year. For English football fans not having their Country represented at the upcoming Euro08 nationals tournament means the UEFA Champions League crown will have to be a security pub for the English, at least until next years UEFA tourney.
2.They’re padding their wallets in Moscow this evening. Europe as a continent couldn’t have ask for anything worse two clubs from arguably the continent most hated foot-balling nation. Its not that the English have been terribly successful in terms of foot-balling history, its just the way thing have been in Europe for centuries, since the Norman conquest, damn the English. This evening however in Russia the snickers are modest if not mute and despise has been replaced by a curtsey and a smile. The English are coming, the English are coming and everybody knows it. Prices are up, business is good, the inn is full.
Notes:
During a Tuesdays afternoon training session Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole spent a phenomenal amount of time sprawled out, well concerned teammates looked on. Several reports have Cole fit and penciled into Coach "Avy" Grants starting lineup but Chelsea is an extremely competent team that would have little trouble covering up the loss of veteran back Cole.
Friendly Wagers:
Chelsea have won nothing this year under first year coach Grant, failing in two domestic tournaments to grasp hardware and finishing second to Manchester United in the English Premier League.
Manchester United is favoured to win returning 1.50 on every dollar but lets live a little.
My selection is Manchester at even money to score the first goal and I have a hard time believing that in this ultra-conservative high stakes football game that a team could concede an initial goal and mange a ferocious comeback to steal the title. An even money (Risk a dollar to win a dollar) bet may not be as sexy as Man U at 1.5 but after the first goal well I’m enjoying my Heineken, please keep your nervous sweats away from my new chinos.
Zoltan Black - The tournament is long and lavish, never lacking in parity or excitement
