At 8848m the summit of Mt. Everest separates Nepal and Tibet. In Nepali, Everest is named Sagarmatha, ‘goddess of the sky’. At over 1300m taller than its neighbour Lhotse, the jet stream blown summit of Everest catches the final light of day. Formed about 60 million years ago, Mt. Everest is testimony to the sheer power of geological forces.

The literal roof of the world the Mahalangur mountain range in north eastern Nepal is dominated by Mt. Everest and Lhotse. This image was captured from a height of 5545m at Kala Patthar. Looking across the Khumbu Valley at the world’s tallest mountains is an awesome experience and a feeling of infinite wonder. I could think of no better place to wield the willow and smack the cherry to the boundary.
