Mt. Hood Hikers: Luke Gullberg Found Dead, 2 Still Missing
As rescue workers search for the three missing Mt. Hood Hikers, one has been found dead, and two are still missing. The dead Mt. Hood hiker was identified as Luke T. Gullberg, a 26-year-old from Des Moines, Washington, just south of Seattle. His friends made a Facebook tribute page which is open to the public. The two hikers still missing are Anthony Vietti, from Longview, Washington; and Katie Nolan, from Portland, Oregon. Inclement weather has hindered the search, as have avalanche conditions.
Luke Gullberg, Katie Nolan and Anthony Vietti are described as experienced climbers and hikers, but they are apparently not carrying avalanche beacon equipment.
The hikers began their climb at about 1 a.m. PT Friday. Authorities received a call that they were missing at about 10 p.m. Friday, said Deputy Scott Meyers of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
They planned a fairly easy, "semi-technical" hike in which they would come down the south side of the mountain, Meyers said.

This happens almost every year on Mt. Hood. When will they ever learn? I hope the other two build some kind of snow shelter and are still alive.
