Nanaimo Clippers edged out the Quesnel Millionaires in a 3/2 overtime win Friday night at the Frank Crane Area. The just over 1 000 fans who turned out to the Clippers game were rewarded with a win in overtime.
Nanaimo Clippers scored early. In the first ten minutes of the game they put two pucks past the Quesnel Millionaires' goalie. The Millionaires answered with a goal late in the first period. Both teams were held scoreless in the second.
In the third, the Quesnel Millionaires tied the game, forcing an overtime period. An unfortunate penalty to a Clipper in the dying minutes of the third period meant that the Nanaimo Clippers played short handed for nearly one minute in the overtime period. At this point the fans were offering coaching tips from the stands. A penalty given to a Quesnel player cost them the game, as the Clippers scored to clinch the win.
Nanaimo Clippers play their last home game of the season Friday the 19th. They meet their arch rivals the Cowichan Capitals. Both teams have made the playoff roster and will be jockeying for playoff position.
