Nanaimo Kids Given Important Lesson In Sportsmanship
Some 10 year old baseball players were given an important lesson in sportsmanship Sunday. The mosquito AAA Nanaimo Pirates were undefeated in their games. They didn't get to play the championship round. Why? When they defeated the Richmond kids someone objected to their only having 11 players when the rules call for 12. Keep in mind at this point they had played four other teams and defeated them. The 10 year old kids play five games and then get disqualified because they couldn't field 12 kids. I don't know why they were one kid short. Maybe because Nanaimo is a small town especially compared to Richmond. Those are the rules kids. Maybe they wouldn't have applied if they hadn't been so successful. The rules certainly weren't applied for the first game, the second game, the third game, the fourth game. Keep in mind these are 10 year old children.
Rules are rules kids. Oh, there was a rule that uniform shirts had to be tucked in. That one wasn't enforced. Be good sports kids. Remember it's not how you win it's if you win. Did I get that right? It sure can't be teaching the children that it's how you play the game can it?

Good story Barbara, course some small league coaches think they are coaching in the Majors, though their career aspirations coaching little league and nonsensical rules towards little kids seem more Paper Hat and Fries coaching methodology.

The following is my thoughts and opinion on what happened. These can be found on the Vancouver Sun site as well:The decision of the Richmond team to file a complaint AFTER losing is a sickening and reprehensible act. The person or people from the Richmond team who conscientiously filed the complaint should feel shame and humiliation for their shallow emotional capacity. To set an example for the children in this cowardly manner shines a very large and questioning spotlight on the state of affairs within the Richmond organization. There is no honor for the Richmond team to win in this manner. Congratulations to the Nanaimo team for playing with heart and honor.. Perhaps others can learn from your hard-fought and honest victory and learn to set a better example.
