Jordan Zimmermann to be fed to the lion?

Following back to back opulent performances by Nats starters John Lannan and Craig Stammen it appears that Jordan Zimmermann (perhaps the young Nats hurler with the brightest future?) will be sent to the hill as a sacrificial lamb.

The twenty-eight win Washington Nationals host the Central Division leading St. Louis Cardinals and sure fire M.V.P. candidate Winnie the Pujols at Nationals Park this evening following back to back victories over a depleted New York Mets squad.

When you're winning as few games as the Nats this season you learn to appreciate the small victories, like claiming a two games set against an ailing roster but small victories are little assurance when the big boys role into town. Which is indeed the case this evening when the Nationals and Cardinals finish up what they started back on April 30th when the Cardnials won the first two games of a three game series before rain washed out the series finale on May 3rd.

The Cardinals are currently on a bit of a skid losing three straight to the Astros in Houston and six of their last ten overall.

A narrow escape for Jordan Zimmermann

Just as I've come to the conclusion of this post and update flashes across my computer screen. The Nats have placed starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann on 15-day disabled list due to elbow discomfort and will call on Collin Balester to make the start this evening against St. Louis. Balester was called up from triple-a Syracuse on Wednesday and will promptly be feed to the lions (Cardnials) in Zimmermann's place.

Balester, fed to the lion right off the bat - tough break, but not to worry - it's early days yet.
