The NBA will celebrate its 65th Anniversary date on 6/6/11. The NBA was founded on June 6, 1946 at the old Hotel Commodore in New York City. The NBA was first known as the BAA (Basketball Association of America) in 1946 until it merged with the NBL (National Basketball League) in 1949 and was renamed the NBA. The BAA started as an 11-team league in 1946 that has been given the nickname the "Original Eleven."
