The NBA (National Basketball Association) marked its 65 Anniversary of being founded on June 6, 2011. The NBA was founded on June 6, 1946 in New York City as an 11-team league.  The league was known then as the BAA (Basketball Association of America).

The NBA/ABA merger was announced on June 17, 1976. This coming Friday June 17, 2011 will mark the 35th Anniversary of the historic merger that grew the league from 18 to 22 teams. The Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, New York (New Jersey) Nets, and San Antonio Spurs became NBA franchises for the 1976-77 season.

The 100-years of combined celebration 11-days apart in the year 2011 during the month of June. Just days after one of the most intense NBA Finals in last 20-years makes the milestone Anniversaries even more special.

Combining the days (6) of June 6th , and the (17) of June 17th equal the number 23. The 2011 NBA Draft will be held on June 23rd.

The 2011 NBA Draft will be held at the Prudential Center home of the New Jersey Nets in Newark, NJ. The City of Newark and Mayor Corey Booker proclaimed June 2010 as NBHHCM (National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month).

NBHHCM 2K11 Trivia Note:

June 17, 2011 will also mark the 25th Anniversary date of the 1986 NBA Draft. The 1986 draft is marred with drug addiction from players and the death of a rising star the University of Maryland forward Len Bias. Bias was the second overall pick of the Boston Celtics.

Dennis Rodman the 5-time NBA Champion the 27th pick of the draft, and Arvydas Sabonis the 24th pick were both inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame for 2011.

Since 2009 June has been proclaimed and observed as NBHHCM (National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month).
