The NBA (National Basketball Association) will be celebrating its 65th Anniversary (6/6/46) this coming June 6, 2011 during NBHHCM (National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month) 2K11

NBHHCM was first proclaimed in 2009 in Baltimore, Maryland. June was selected as the official month of observance. There were 15 major US cities (13 NBA team cities), and one US State (Maryland) to proclaim June 2010 as NBHHCM. The NBHHCM Foundation will dedicate NBHHCM 2K11 to the NBA and its 65th Anniversary of being founded.

The league was founded on June 6, 1946 in New York City at the old Hotel Commodore (now the Grand Hyatt NYC). The league was originally named the BAA (Basketball Association of America). The league merged with the rival NBL (National Basketball League) in 1949 and changed the league name to the current NBA.

The BAA began as an 11-team league with a 60-game regular season schedule. The inaugural season of 1946-47 began on November 1, 1946 when the New York Knicks defeated the Toronto Huskies 68-66 at the Maple Leaf Gardens (the building still stands today) in Toronto to win the first-ever game of the BAA league.

The first 11 teams have been named the "Original Eleven" by Dunkadelic Sports Marketing.

The "Original Eleven" were the Boston Celtics, Chicago Stags, Cleveland Rebels, Detroit Falcons, New York Knicks, Philadelphia Warriors, Pittsburgh Ironmen, Providence Steamrollers, St. Louis Bombers, Toronto Huskies, and Washington Capitols.

The Philadelphia Warriors defeated the Chicago Stags 4-2 to win the first-ever BAA Championship.

The Boston Celtics and New York Knicks are the only two original NBA franchises from 1946 that are with their original team city. The Philadelphia Warriors moved to San Francisco in 1962 and became the San Francisco Warriors. They changed the team name to the Golden State Warriors in 1971.

The NBA has some unique historical connections between the numbers 6 and 11.

The NBA was founded on June 6th (6/6). There were 11-teams in the inaugural season as the league turns 65 during the year 2011

Adding the numbers 6 + 5=11. The 65th Anniversary will be celebrated during the year 2011.

Bill Russell the NBA's winning-est player wore the number 6 and won 11 NBA Championships as player for the Boston Celtics.

Michael Jordan by acclamation is the greatest player to ever play in the NBA won 6 NBA Championships, 6 Finals MVP awards, and is an 11-time All-NBA Selection (10-first team 1-second team 1985). 6/6/11 is the day the NBA celebrates its 65th Anniversary.

The City of New York on February 18, 2011 decided to proclaim June 2011 as NBHHCM to honor the 65th Anniversary of the league being founded. New York was one of the 15 major cities in 2010 to proclaim June as NBHHCM.
