NBC's Olympics Coverage and Schedule, both Live TV and Taped, of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games is being slammed despite great ratings for the Peacock Network, and judging by the Twitter rage the critique of NBC is only starting.

The network which has paid about $2 Billion for the right to host Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 relies heavily on pre-taping and not showing many events Live on TV . Choosing to forgo the Live coverage in favor of taping events so that can be shown tape delayed in Prime Time has created a firestorm on sites like Twitter and Facebook

The Facebook page demands NBC  provide more Live TV Coverage of the Olympics in its TV Schedule

Viewers living on the west coast are particularly hit hard because Vancouver is in the Pacific Time Zone events are long over, medals handed out by the time NBC chooses to broadcast those events in Prime Time. NBC says it is losing money perhaps $200 million on the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. Now it seems NBC is losing Olympic fans who are more interested in following the Olympics as the Games unfold instead of searching the internet using terms like NBC Olympic Coverage, or NBC TV Schedule, or NBC Live Coverage just find out when to catch their favorite event live on television. From Olympic viewers to industry observers like Henry Blodget the rage seems universal

...like every other connected sports fan on the planet these days, we know exactly when the Olympics is taking place and what's happening there--in real time.

So, right now, for us, NBC isn't the network that brings us the Olympics.  It's the network that prevents us from watching the Olympics.   And we hate NBC for that.

There is some good news for NBC and its Olympic Coverage: the ratings

Monday's primetime portion of the Vancouver Games on NBC averaged a 7.2 rating/18 share in adults 18-49 and 25.5 million viewers overall.

">Variety reports the overall primetime audience for Monday's Olympics coverage matched the combined numbers of ABC, CBS, Fox and CW...

For those angry at NBC and its Olympic coverage check out this post from  blogger in Washington State made this observation.
To protest NBC's lackluster and poor coverage, I plan to stay away from my television during the Games. Instead, I'll watch on the Internet, using proxy servers to tune into live streams offered by broadcasters in other countries. I'm taking matters into my own hands because I refuse to allow big corporations like NBC to decide what I get to see and when I get to see it.

Still want to vent at NBC for its Olympics Coverage - well, the everyone is re-tweeting the email address for Dick Ebersol, head honcho for NBC Olympics - His email address is Dick (dot) Ebersol (at) nbcuni (dot) com

Even now I am watching men's 12.5 km pursuit but I already know who won so even their live is not live.

I share in the frustration of not watching the Olympics in real time.  I've been a loyal supporter of NBC for years, but this could change my future viewing habits.   I live in the state Washington, 3 hours from the border, and I end up falling asleep during the late night coverage waiting for figure skating events to be aired!!!!  I am hosting a Dinner and Watching Party for skating friends on Feb. 25, the ladies long, and imagine how excited we will be, but sooooo frustrated waiting for the airing which won't come till 11:00pm!  It takes all the fun and excitement out of it.Can't serious changes be made to save your viewers and the network before it's too late!!

NBC's television coverage is absolutely disgraceful.  To even call it sports coverage is pathetically incorrect.  It should be more appropriately called the "Bob Costos Show" with all of its long drawn out commentary and endless empty promises to viewers of coming up event coverage.  The ratio of minutes showing actual sports events to anything other that than would literally be less than 60%.  Then there is the commercial break time that when factored in would reduce actual sports time by another 15%.  These are my rough estimates so measure for yourself and make your own determination.  Last evening for example featured a personal trip by one of the guest announcers to the wild polar bear tour.  Great for NBC PR but don't call it Olympic sport coverage.

I live in California. My 11 year old daughter had to stay up late until almost 12:00 to see the last (and the best) group of figure skating. And she had to get up to go to school this morning. So what was NBC thinking? Indeed, this is the network that is ruining our Olympic Experience.

What was NBC thinking? What in hell were YOU thinking? Nice try at passing the buck for poor parenting, but if you don't care, why do you think NBC should?

...the coverage is like watching your parents broadcast your basletball game...wheres somebody under 60 reporting the Olympics, which they could of never played........and these mini-vids of the athletes......I DON"T CARE......show me the games at the Olympics.......put a trailer on the bottom that gives you an option to read or not......the ratings are going to plummet because people will get tired of talk.....talk......talk.......talk....talk.......

.....sorry about the typing......my keyboard had water on it...............get rid of the over 60 reporters...........I'll keep on mute.......

Watching NBC Olympics is horrible!!! It's not LIVE! and they only show sports they want to show. Soooo frustrating

5 downhill skiers. you must be kidding me. that's it, that's all we got!!!!! As always NBC coverage sucks. Just show us the events. Who cares about the ice not being ready, during the 10 minutes NBC spent on that matter we could have seen at least 10 more skiers.

I grew up watching the Olympics every year as a kid and would love to share the experience with my children. However, NBC's coverage doesn't start until 8:00 in Seattle- after they've gone to bed. We're even in the same time zone as Vancouver! I wanted to watch more results last night but had to go to bed at 11:00 pm. I'm exhausted from staying up so late but I love every event (well, maybe not curling) and appreciate all the althetes. I want to see them- not polar bears or ice machines. Watching the coverage the day after on the Internet just isn't the same. It's so frustrating not be able to watch any coverage at all until 8:00 at night. Give us some more  options NBC!

Amazing how many people seem to think it's free for NBC to be given broadcast privileges for the Games, and that they don't have to pay any of their production staff or commentators. The ads are a fact of doing business. Or they could try Pay-per-view.... but I doubt you'd want to personally pay for the coverage, either. And there is a lot more that goes into scheduling what gets aired than what one individual in one area of the US wants to see. In a perfect world, they could have live broadcasts to the entire planet for the 16 or more hours per day that The Olympics activities go on. Be real. The coverage is better and more diverse than I have seen on some past Olympics. It's never perfect. Time differences and all sorts of other factors come in to play. And how nice would it be to have people using decent English when they post in public places. In this day and age, I guess that's another "Be real".

BCR,   I understand they have to pay for the broadcasting. But it is NOT necessary to have a set of commercials after every three or four throws in Curling. NBC even decided to go to commercials during a game deciding measurement. Being live, you end up missing about 50% of the Curling events. Even the Superbowl doesn't come close to that at about 30% commercials.

Ads are to gain revenue and without the ads NBC could not pay for the Olympic coverage??? I don't understand then how the majority of other countries' tv stations can afford to broadcast up to 4 channels of live coverage with very minimal advertising??? The perfect example of coverage is Eurosport.  They have two stations dedicated to the Olympics with very few commercials. No lame broadcast studios, they just hop from event to event.  Even their non-Olympic sports coverage is head and shoulders above ESPN and they rarely have commericals. I lived in the Czech Republic for the last winter games and had 3 local Czech stations plus 2 Eurosport channels with live events.  Literally every medal event was covered live.  How can a small country like the Czech Republic produce superior coverage to our stations with less advertising???? An example of corporate America at its best!

Actually, don't I remember them trying a pay-per-view thing a few olympiads back with the "Red, White, and Blue Networks?" I seem to recall it was a dismal failure, but I didn't take part in the fiasco so can't say from experience. So, no, the PPV option isn't exactly a success. It just turns out that people are going to complain about not getting enough of the one event they're interested in, usually something like Snow Golfing or Ice Handball, no matter what. Let's face it, there's a guy in the thread complaining about cutting to a commercial during a measurement in curling. Geeze, live with grief, there's people dying in a war. The guy in the booth probably fell asleep and hit a button when he fell out. The number of commercials is excessive though, he's right about that.

I would love to watch the Olympics but it is not possible with the coverage provided by NBC.  I don't tune in to listen to what commentators have to say, I tune in to watch top athletes compete.  Unfortunately, NBC thinks we are more interested in commercials and watching athletics drive around in a car in their native city.  I don't get it and I'm not getting to watch much competition either.  And it's also quite clear that NBC believes that we are only interested in the sports in which an American is in the running for the Gold.  I would like to see all the sports represented.  Oh for the good old days of ABC Sports coverage....now they know how to cover the competitions.  The coverage was so poor last night that I shut the TV off.  I am trying again tonight but NBC's coverage is just that - TRYING!

This Winter Olympic by NBC is the absolute worst ever. It's taped, and in some cases Yahoo puts up the events long before they are even telecast. Much of the real continuing coverage is skipped. They are too busy doing analysis of particular athletes (which isn't always bad), or going to commercials (which there are way way too many for the amount of actual coverage shown). We get just a sprinkling of high profile events, and that about it. Of all the events taking place, some aren't even mentioned, because there are no Americans high profile enough to give note. There is only one network station available for us to watch, and with all of the channels given to the NBA and NFL on satellite, this is a crying shame. When I was in Korea, the coverage of Olympics there was a thousand times better. The dismal telecasting NBC is doing is IMHO, nothing short of criminal.

I am watching  the Olympics on NBC just because there is no another TV channel  to watch it on .I hate it.   It  really  sucks. Sooooomany commercials, only few  sports, I can not believe it . Just Americans athletes, no other athletes, so little sports to choose from.  I would love watch other states athletes but with NBC  there is no chance to watch anything really. . Just plain  horrible !!!!! Also .... Why do Americans have so many channels but the  Olympics are only on horrible NBC.

I totally agree!  I feel like I'm living in a highly censored country where the censors are the networks and I have no right to see the REAL sporting events.  What happened to our American FREEDOMS?

For all you NBC viewers I saw the USA - Switzerland Hockey Game Live this afternoon on TSN(Cdn).  I noticed the game wasn't even broadcast in the US.

The US - Switzerland Hockey Game was live on USA. They're at least showing all the hockey games live on USA MSNBC and CNBC. Sucks about not showing many of the other events live as they should be. Especially since we're actually on the same continent. I understand when the're in Asia or Europe. The coverage could/should be much more extensive and LIVE!!

It's extremely frustrating to watch NBC's camera coverage of figure skating.  The camera goes in for a tight shot of the skater's FACE during the last couple moves of each skater's  program.  Figure skating is about watching the entire body move.  It's a shame those in the control room don't realize that maybe the puclic would like to see the skater's dramatic full body finish (he's worked years to perfect) rather than just going in for a tight shot of his face.

The only fully live events are hockey and curling. Alpine Skiing - NBC covers the highlights in primetime, about 6-10 hours after they take place (kinda like ESPN SportsCenter, only worse... much, much worse).Biathlon - Usually is aired on a 30-60 minute tape delay (why doesn't NBC show it live?)Cross-country Skiing - when they do cover CC Cross-country Skiing events, it is usually live, but they break from it and rarely show it live, start to finish.Figure Skating & Short track Speed Skating - on tape delay for the west coast, the rest of the country sees it both live and on tape delay (when NBC goes to commercials/covers polar bears/talks endlessly and misses an important performance, they put the performance on tape delay while pretending they are returning to live coverage, NBC has no shame).Free Style Skiing - on a 2-3 hour tape delay and even worse for the west coast.Luge - NBC enjoys covering previous luge events while live luge events are occurring at Vancouver!! NBC showed the first run of men's luge on tape delay when they could have shown the 2nd run live!! NBC is absolutely maddening!! Luge is never live.Ski jumping & Nordic Combined - Ski jumping was on tape delay during the weekend, by about 30-60 minutes. What the heck? Why not show it live? What is the point of watching a sporting event on a 30 minute tape delay! Is NBC deliberately trying to piss off viewers?Snowboarding - NBC could have shown it live on NBC, but chooses to go the route of covering just highlights 8 hours later. Speed skating - Never is live, like most everything else!NBC stands for "Nothing But Commercials/Commentary... You want to watch the Olympics live? Here at NBC, we know tape delayed sporting events is what Americans want! And if you do want to watch sporting events live, tough luck! But honestly... who enjoys watching live sporting events? When they are so much better on a 6 hour tape delay."NBC could be making a fortune airing all events live throughout the day on the NBC Universal Cable Networks... since they don't want to... since NBC refuses to show over 85% of the sports live for Americans, there are live feeds on the internet of all events, and don't announce it when you find one, NBC will have it shut down. The fascists at NBC have already shut down a bunch.I wonder how the Americans would react if CBS did this to March Madness? CBS spokesman: "Well, we paid 500 million to show March Madness live to Americans, but we choose rather to have the games on tape delay... yeah, you see this is sweeps week and we need all viewers to watch CBS from 8-11pm so we can rank, blah, blah, blah.... I don't think Americans people are smart enough to figure out what we show them is not live. Americans, as we all know, are idiots!" You see people, the 2010 Winter Olympics are happening during February Sweeps, which means NBC is trying to herd you all into the 8-11pm time slot! They couldn't care less about the Olympics. All NBC sees is $. The only way to prevent this from happening again is to find live feeds of the Olympics online and write to the advertisers your disgust in their cooperation with NBC. Boycott NBC tape delayed "coverage" and boycott their advertisers. That is the only way to beat them.

-terrible coverage. 30% commercials, 30% commentary/touchy-feel good documentaries of the participating athletes (which people should be able to see if they want on some other nbc option), and 40% games 5% of which is actually live. its just a shame nbc can rob us of the option of actually watching the complete olympics LIVE.

I'm sure they're gonna ruin the snowboard half pipe and speed skating today

I agree it is an outrage that we are reduced to watched taped sporting events. NBC should be ashamed. They are showing poor Olympic spirit. It is difficult to become excited about the Games when it is tape delayed in the can. Maybe I will go watch Lost.

I want to tell you as a sports fan-atic and especially watching the Olympic Winter sports I have to say your coverage is extrenely poor. Rarely do we see live events with American competitors and seldom see durning your evening coverage any winners or medal presentation.  BUT  what is more annoying is your constant 3 minute of events followed by 4 minutes of commercials. I understand your need the sponsorship and advertisers BUT the flow of watching a few minutes of sporting events and then immediately run into 4 or 5 minutes of commercials is too much to take.  As much as I like watching these atheletes compete I can no longer handle the barrage of advertisements and will from now on go to the internet to follow events winners and medal presentations. I know I am not alone feeling this way and hope your network can create a more viewer friendly coverage or I am afraid you will lose many fervent supporters of the Olympic games.

I am an upset American... The winter games are my MOST FAVORITE televised event of all time... i watch religiously every morning, evening, and even the late night coverage is saved for my enjoyment on my DVR.. I live in the Mountain standard time zone, why is there absolutely NO TELEVISED LIVE COVERAGE?  This is now the SECOND WINTER GAMES that NBC has made this decision to not televise the games live AT ANY POINT!I am upset with your company decisions and intend to BOYCOTT your coverage for future summer and winter games coverage-- because of your lousy decision making    *****I have PAID AMERICAN DOLLARS to become a member of CANADIAN TELEVISION RINGS that DO cover the olympics live (at least online- and more than hockey and curling) and will continue to take my AMERICAN dollars and dump them into FOREIGN MARKETS to enjoy this privilege of live coverage... BE AMERICAN NBC!!!!! COVER ALL OLYMPICS LIVE!!! FOR THE GOOD OF AMERICA!!!!

Seems everyone here is American, so as I Canadian I may have a good perspective for you on this.  For the past few olympics CBC, our government funded national network, has covered every olympics perfectly. This year though, a "private" network, CTV won the bid to air the games.  I was a little worried but I'm blown away.  CTV has paired up with 2 of our 3 national sports networks (your ESPN type networks).  They are putting aside their normal rivalries to provide comprehensive LIVE footage of everything.  As well, we have few French networks doing coverage, Aboriginal television (Native Canadians) and our other Italian and Portuguese networks.  Everyone is sharing footage, commentators, it's really something else. I turn to NBC only to compare, and everyone, I feel sorry for you.  They went to commercials last night and skipped some good halfpipe runs.  For commercials?  Run an ad on the bottom of the screen if they need the cash.  Up here they show commercials, but they aren't effecting coverage. I also understand NBC wants to be patriotic, and am surpised at how many props they are giving to other countries athletes.  Good on them for that.  Never used to be like that. Our networks have stopped showing prime time shows, even taken a break from local news coverage to give excellent coverage, literally, almost 24-7. You want to see every skiers qualifying runs?  It was on.  Everything is on, and they do there best to show it all live.  Of course it's repeated a hundred times after but so what.  You want to see a curling match (understand the game, it's pretty fun, find a local curling pad, bring your friends and have some beers) between Japan and Sweden women?  It'll be on.  You want to see the full 10km of cross-country?  It's on, why not? Did you know every night there are great concerts in Vancouver and are being aired on MuchMusic (our MTV).  I didn't even know that. I'm not bragging here, but while these Games are meant to be an outlet to cheer your country on, NBC should be highlighting all great athletes and all events.  Start petitions or whatever you need to do. Use our coverage as an example, and hopefully for 2012 whichever network down there airs it, will do it right. As for getting our networks online feeds, here is a website which can help. www.ctv.ca Click schedule at the top.  It'll list a bunch of networks and you can go to their websites too.
