Preview of Frozen Four 2010 Match-ups for March 26th
While the NCAA March Madness tournament gets all the headlines, the NCAA Hockey Tournament of 2010 kicks off March 26th, while 16 teams compete for a spot in the Frozen Four 2010.
March 26th Matchups:
The opening day of the NCAA Hockey Tournament Sees 8 Teams getting into the action on opening night of Frozen Four 2010.
Rochester Institute of Technology (15) Defeats Denver (1) 2-1
The very first game of the tournament saw a huge upset, when RIT defeated top-seeded Denver 2-1, completely throwing the tournament bracket into disarray. RIT plays for the Atlantic Division, often seen as the weakest conferences in college hockey. The Cinderella prevailed as RIT was able to knock off what was considered the best team in the nation.
2 Cornell vs. 3 New Hampshire - March 26th, 6:30 pm EST
Cornell is a defensive nightmare for any team, as it has allowed fewer goals than any team in the country, only 61 in 33 games. New Hampshire counters with Bobby Butler, who leads the nation with 27 goals.
1 Wisconsin vs. 4 Vermont - March 26th, 9:00 pm EST
Wisconsin is deep at every single position, and has Brendan Smith in contention for a Hobey this year.
Vermont has a very capable defense that has shut out the opposition in its last two games of the Hockey East Quarterfinals.
St. Cloud State vs. 3 Northern Michigan - March 26th, 5:30 pm EST
Cloud State has Garrett Roe, a wonderful player, but they've never won a NCAA tournament game. Northern Michigan has gone 9-2-1 in their last 12 games, and looks to improve on that record with a win over cloud state. They've got stars in Mark Olver and Brian Stewart.
