March Madness 2010: St. Mary's College vs. Villanova

St. Mary's College vs. Villanova started on Saturday March 20th at 1pm EDT and NowPublic followed the game via our scan tool below.

There was some upset on Saturday as the 10th-seeded St. Mary's College defeated the 2nd-seeded Villanova Wildcats with a final score of 75-68.

Omar Samhan led the scoring for St. Mary's College with 32 points total. Corey Stokes scored the most for the Villanova Wildcats with total of 15 points.

It was a tense game, with 95 seconds left on the clock the score was sitting at 65 all, and it was still anyone's game at that point.

St. Mary's took a late lead of 68 - 65 when Mickey McConnell shook off a defender to sink a 3-point basket. Omar Samhan scored the final basket and the fans just went wild.

Omar Shamhan has really shown himself to be a strong player in this tournament and blogs and news sites are buzzing about how well he has played and how many points he has scored for his team.

St. Mary's College will play either Old Dominion or Baylor who play later on Saturday so that will determine their next opponent.

NCAA's Fanhouse had this to say about the game:

Scottie Reynolds' shooting, which was as dreadful Saturday as it had been in Thursday's first-round game. Villanova's senior guard ended his brilliant college career with a game in which he shot 2-for-11 from the field. Even a poor shooting day by Reynolds' standards could have made the difference, but a horrible one doomed the Wildcats. In the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Reynolds was 4-for-26 from the field, including 2-for-10 from three-point range.

Here is an updated bracket and a printable bracket.
