The new Lewis Hamilton?
Is Alexander Sims poised to follow Lewis Hamilton into the big world of Formula One?
Well perhaps not yet but the promising young driver stepped closer to this when he was awarded the McLaren Autosport BRDC award for the most promising young driver of the year.
This is a young driver to watch out for.
IF you are just 20, how do you get to test drive a McLaren Formula One car and pocket £50,000 at the same time?
The answer is you win the McLaren Autosport BRDC award for the most promising young driver of the year — which is exactly what jubilant Alexander Sims did last night.
Sims, who was presented with his prize by former world champion Damon Hill, will also get the chance to test an Aston Martin GT1 Le Mans car.
And to top off the fantastic package, he was given a £700 watch as wide as his wrist by motorsport timekeepers TW Steel.
Sims, runner-up in this year's Formula Renault single-seater series, beat off five other contenders for the coveted award, which boasts previous winners including David Coulthard and Jenson Button.
He nailed it with a brilliant performance in a group test at Norfolk's Snetterton track, at which the young pretenders drove a power-packed Mercedes DTM car, a Formula Three Dallara and an Aston GT4 machine.
