New Oklahoma State Fight Song 'Cowboy Forever' Draws Criticism

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have a new fight song. The song, entitled "Cowboy Forever," was written by John Martin, son of OSU associate athletic director Dave Martin.

John Martin says legendary cowboy Frank "Pistol Pete" Eaton was his inspiration "Cowboy Forever." Martin says the song tell the story of Pistol Pete and how he avenged the death of his father.

Some OSU students and alumni aren't too thrilled about the new OSU fight song. Criticism of "Cowboy Forever" has been voiced on radio talk shows and internet message boards.

Listening to “Cowboys Forever” made me feel lame. I have never heard a song that represents the way I feel about myself or my school, and I wish this one was not it. The cheesy lyrics in this song are plain overwhelming.

DO NOT LIKE. HAS NO SPIRIT TO IT. THE OLD SONG HAD SPIRIT TO IT.IT SET US APART FROM ALL OF THE OTHER COLLEGES.WHY THE NEED TO CHANGE I HAVE NOT A CLUE.

As an OSU fan this is insulting. I can't believe the assistant AD at OSU's nepitism would spoil the entire football season with this piece of fecal matter titled "cowboys forever." I would rather insert an operating squigle pen down my narrow p-hole than to have to hear it Saturday. Look for me against Georgia near the Gallagher Iba endzone displaying some form of clever bannner in protest to this butt cheese.

Please correct your article. IT IS NOT THE FIGHT SONG. It is a song that was composed to go with the highlights video played during pregame and was only played three times during the Sept 5th game. before during the pregame video (and it was massively booed), during halftime--very briefly (and it was massively booed again), and after the game was over, after the true fight song, "Ride em Cowboys" and the alma mater song were played and as people were exiting the stadium. Please do not spread misinformation about this song being the fight song.
