New Oregon Basketball Court Photo: New 2011 Fir-Tree Court Design
The University of Oregon is always innovative. Not only are the University of Oregon football uniforms always unique, they now have a wacky new basketball court.
The new Oregon basketball court at Matthew Knight Arena has raised a few eyebrows. The new arena is named after the late son of Nike found Phil Knight, one of the school's biggest benefactors. The new Oregon basketball court has a unique design that is hard to figure out. Apparently, the new Oregon basketball court is designed to look as if it's shadowed by fir trees.
The floor itself is called Kilkenny Court, and was designed by Tinker Hatfield, the creator of some of Nike's most successful sneakers.
When I was asked to work on the new floor for Matthew Knight Arena, I really boiled it down to three things,” Hatfield said. “I really wanted to pay tribute to Matthew Knight himself, to the Kilkenny family and lastly but maybe not least, I wanted to pay tribute to the Pacific Northwest and the Tall Firs, the original basketball team that won a national championship for the University of Oregon in 1939.”
