New York City Marathon 2009: Results, Photos & Video From NYC
The 2009 New York City Marathon took place Nov. 1, 2009. The 2009 NYC Marathon was won by Meb Keflezighi, who finished the 26.2-mile New York City Marathon course in 2 hours, 9 minutes, 15 seconds. Keflezighi, who won a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics, became the first American to win the New York City Marathon since 1992. Keflezighi was born in the African nation of Eritrea and became a US citizen in 1998.
Second place at the 2009 NYC Marathon went to Kenya's Robert Cheruiyot and Morocco's Jaouad Gharib finished third. American Ryan Hall finished fourth.
As for the women's portion of the 2009 NYC Marathon, Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia was the winner with Russian Ludmila Petrova finished in second place for the second straight year. British marathoner Paula Radcliffe finished in fourth place.

The city embraces its annual New York City Marathon as a celebration of runners from around the world.
It was truly awesome to see Meb Keflizighi coming home with his USA singlet as he crossed the tape to win. It was the first US win since 1982! The US men's team did extraordinarily well this year.
