How is the NFL Going To Honor the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. Here is What the League Has Planned
Most of the world will be focusing on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 this Sunday. That includes the NFL, which opens has its first full day of games on Sunday, September 11, 2011.
Not surprisingly, the NFL has gone to great lengths to commemorate 9/11.
How Will the NFL Commemorate 9/11?
The league has several things in mind. For one, they are having games played in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania where the 9/11 attacks took place.
The New York Giants visit the Washington Redskins. The Sunday night game will see the New York Jets host the Dallas Cowboys.
Earlier in the day, the Baltimore Ravens will face the Pittsburgh Steelers, while at 4.15 p.m.Pittsburgh is relatively close to Shanksville, Pa., where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed.
Also, the Arizona Cardinals will honor former player Pat Tillman prior to their game against the Carolina Panthers. Tillman died while serving in Afghanistan.
The NFL will also air pre-game tributes to 9/11 in each NFL stadium. The 9/11 video will also air prior to each NFL telecast.
Sideline official will wear commemorative pins, and NFL players will have a red, white, and blue ribbon below their jersey collars.
Several NFL players have come up with their own 9/11 tribute by wearing stars-and-stripes sneakers and gloves. The tribute could get them fined.
