Thumbnail image for DBLogo.pngActually for today, a pretty significant update.  We added 7 new mock drafts, updated 31 and now have a total of 196 mock drafts for 2009, approaching 200 Mocks.  The NFL Draft fever is in high pitch.  You can tell.

First up, Most Valuable Network  . . . First and foremost, let us take a second here and introduce you to the brand spanking new MVN Draft page.  This is the official MVN page for the NFL Draft and you should bookmark it.  It will have automatic feed updates from any NFL MVN affiliate sites that post any NFL draft articles, posts, or rankings.  Truly valuable resource!

In addition, it will automatically update with the latest news from DC Pro Sports Report draft coverage and NFL Mock Draft Database.  Thirdly, it has its own tab for the NFL Mock Draft Database, since we are the Official NFL Mock Draft Database of the Most Valuable Network.

In addition, the Mock Draft Database is going to be undergoing a few changes soon as we prepare to integrate the Database more neatly into the DC pro Sports Report main page.   Special thanks goes out to Brandon at MVN.   We don't expect any problems, but just in case we hit an tech problems, now you know why.

Since there were so many mocks updated today, over 30, plus 7 new sites added to the database, we also updated the DCPSR Consensus Picks .  The Consensus is based on all Mock Drafts in the Database that have been updated since FEB 1.  We have no changes, since last update, except for percentages.  Here they are . . .

DETROIT LIONS (1ST PICK):  QB Matt Stafford.  63% of all mocks project Stafford to be the first overall selection.  That percentage is down 5%.  Reason ---- more mocks are starting to take a look at either OT Eugene Monroe or OT Andre Smith to the Lions.    We'll see next time we do the consensus if that trend continues.

ST. LOUIS RAMS (2ND PICK):  OT Andre Smith.  43% of the mock drafts project Smith to the Rams.  That is down 5% from last update.  This is actually quite interesting.  While some mock drafts are looking at Smith as a possible first overall pick, other mocks have completely dropped Smith from their top 5.   OT Andre Smith is one of those players that can really be helped or hurt by combine performance.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (3RD PICK)LB Aaron Curry.  30% of mocks are projecting Curry to KC.  Of the top 5 picks, this is the one mock drafts are most split on.  Other names with pretty good mock picks here are QB Matt Stafford, QB Mark Sanchez, and OT Andre Smith.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (4TH PICK):  WR Michael Crabtree.  68% of mocks project Crabtree to Seattle, and quite frankly, the 'Hawks need a wide receiver, probably not a bad bet.    Crabtree has fallen 6% though as some mocks are looking at a possible QB, LB, or DE pick here.  We will see if this trend continues.  After three straight consensus updates with Crabtree gaining, he now declines a bit.

CLEVELAND BROWNS (5TH PICK):  LB  Aaron Curry.  39% of mocks think the Browns go Aaron Curry if he is not snatched up by the Chiefs at #3.  However, that is down 10% since last update because more mocks are now looking at CB Malcolm Jenkins at #5.  I tend to agree.  I think the Chiefs take Jenkins over Curry here.   However, there is a DISCUSS option at the end of this post and we would be happy to here from Browns fans, or heck, anyone that wishes to comment.

There you have it, the latest consensus Top 5 Picks.    Now, since DC Pro Sports Report covers the Washington Redskins, for you Redskins readers out there, the pick at #13 is still widely split.  I don't really consider there to be a consensus. Here are your top 4 projections at #13.

OT Michal Oher:  18 Mocks
DE Everette Brown: 17 Mocks
OT Jason Smith: 15 Mocks
DE Aaron Maybin: 10 Mocks

Spence says . . . The Redskins should draft the best defensive lineman available with the 13th overall pick in the draft. Ideally, this lineman will be an outside pass-rusher who can draw a double team and take some pressure off Washington's secondary, which is too often relied upon to save the entire team's bacon.

Penn says  . . . I can go along with Spence on this one, but I think if one of the premier OTs, like Oher or J. Smith are there, that is where you need to go, particularly because Jon Jansen was just bad last season and Stephon Heyer is good depth, but not a quality starter.   I would say trade down, because Vinny Cerrato did it masterfully last year, but that is not the problem, the problem is, what he does with the picks after he trades down and gets them.  I don't have any real confidence in Cerrato's ability to draft.
