NFL Grants Nike Exclusive Rights In Apparel And Jerseys In New Contract: Reebok Replaced By Nike
Nike has entered into a 5 year exclusive apparel and jersey deal with the NFL, replacing Reebook which had the NFL contract since 2001.
Reebok’s NFL license represents about $350 million of its $565 million in U.S. apparel revenue, Kate McShane, an analyst at Citigroup Inc. in New York, wrote in a note to investors yesterday. The license may increase Nike’s earnings per share by as much as 3 percent in 2012, said McShane, who is based in New York and has a “buy” rating on the shares.
Judging by the Nike College Football Pro-Combat uniforms that select NCAA teams will wear during certain games in the 2010-11 season, the Nike NFL uniforms will have a more aggressive look. CNBC's Sports Business Columnist Darren Rovell interviewed Nike Brand Design President, Charlie Denson and asked this question
Darren: Many fans want to know how much you are going to change the jersey. Will it be similar to what you've done in college with pretty significant overhauls?
Denson: We plan on changing the NFL jersey dramatically just like we've done with the college programs, using new thinking and the greatest technology available. The NFL program hasn't had the same type of advancement in recent years.
