Some NFL Players Will Wear Red-White-and-Blue Gear To Honor 9/11. Here is a NFL Players 9/11 Shoes and Gloves Photo
As you would expect the NFL is going out of their way to pay their respects on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. NFL players, however, may get into trouble for their own 9/11 tribute.
Some NFL players plan to wear red-white-and-blue gloves and shoes to honor the 9/11 anniversary.
In the palm of the glove are the words: "Never Forget: 9.11.2001."
Reebok made some 9/11 gloves & cleats for this weekend's games and players like Jamaal Charles have said they plan to wear them during games played on September 11, 2011.
The shoes and gloves may violate the NFL's uniform policy.
Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs tweeted:
"Reebok advised me of the possible fine if I wear the gloves and cleats."
It's hard to imagine that the NFL will fine players for the Reebok stars-and-stripes gear, but the league has been known to be strict in the past. You may recall that Peyton Manning got fined a while back for wearing old-school Johnny Unitas cleats during a game.
While we understand that the NFL has its rules, something as big as a 9/11 anniversary seems like a good time to bend them.
Maybe instead of fining players, they should just ask each player wearing the 9/11 Reebok gear to make a donation to a 9/11 charity of some kind.
UPDATE: The NFL has said that it will not fine players wearing the red-white-and-blue Reebok gear on September 11.
