Anyone watching the game on Wednesday was shocked by the viscious hit by Jesse Boulerice on Ryan Kesler. It was a ruthless cross check to the face on the un-expecting Kesler. The NHL today handed down a 25 game suspension to the offending player. This is 5 games more than Boulerice's teammate, Downie, was suspended for jumping in to a hit and knocking his opponent out cold. 25 games seems sufficient as the league is working hard to crack down on these actions which have no part in the game.
Philadelphia forward Jesse Boulerice was suspended 25 games by the NHL on Friday for striking Vancouver's Ryan Kesler across the face with his stick, the longest single-season ban in league history. The suspension was handed down by NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell after a hearing in Toronto.
See here for video of the hit.

ryan nadel, Those sticks can be real dangerous but a 25 game ban should hopefully be a deterrent. Good stuff.

The sticks are definitely dangerous and some courts have ruled that when used in an overly aggressive fashion can be deemed assualt with a deadly weapon.
As an update to the story - Boulerice was put on waivers by his team, which essentially means another team could pick him up.
