Noodling: Bare Hand Sport Fishing has a Television Feature

The sport of bare hand fishing, or noodling, will be featured tonight on ESPN. The tradition, hobbie, job, or sport of noodling is mostly found in southern U.S.A. where a person dives into water and digs around the bottom of a swamp or lake hoping that a big catfish will latch on to its arm so he or she can pull it out. These 20 to 80 pound catfish sit in the murky bottom of water to protect their eggs which leaves them predictable and vulnerable. And that's pretty much the sport of noodling.
Although Noodling is only legal in 11 states this has not deterred the sport. There have been previous reports on noodling in the past such as the documentary "Okie Noodling" which has spawned the annual Okie noodling Tournament held in Oklahoma.
E:60 takes viewers into the water with some of the country's best hand fisherman and takes a rare look at a sport that has just as much to do with culture as it does the thrill. Noodling is illegal in most of the United States, but E:60's Wright Thompson reports the outlaws always find a way to get in the water.
The sport of noodling will be featured on ESPN's E:60 on October 6th.
