The clock towards the 2010 World Cup appears to be ticking fast and the North Korean Football [Soccer] Team wasted no time. The team participated in the International Friendship Football Tournament in the Middle Eastern nation of Qatar. The tournament lasted from the 27th of December 2009 to the 2nd of January 2010.

The North Korean Football [Soccer] Team is also known as Cholima and they are in the Group of Death [Group D] against Brazil, Portugal, and the Ivory Coast. The three countries are powerhouses in football with victories and previous participations in World Cup compared to North Korea in 1966.

During the tournament, North Korea defeated Mali and Qatar before being defeated by Iran. North Korea hopes that such achievements will help it in the 2010 World Cup. The assistant coach [who filled in for the coach] admitted in an interview with FIFA.com that the position of North Korea is difficult.

The assistant coach also admitted that while North Korea is in a difficult situation, they will fight to the end. North Korea will need the tenacity and the will power since their first game is against Brazil.

North Korea will have a hard job in this group advancing.  Both Portugal and Brazil are football power houses.  An upset during the World Cup is always welcome.
